Message from the Principal

I am proud to send a message on the occasion of the reappearance of the Isipathana College web site with a new outlook.

Started in 1952 as 'Greenlands College' with the freshly awakened revival with the 2500 'Buddha Jayanthi', renaming the road running in front of the Isipathanaramaya as Isipathana Mawatha, constructing a shrine room with sacred relics in college premises, Greenland College turned into Isipathana Vidyalaya in 1956.

The founder principal, Mr. B. A. Kuruppu assisted by 07 staff members made the first learning seat in the country to 98 students representing all four nationalities and religions. Accordingly the four houses were named as for world famous poets 'Milton' in England,' 'Iqbal' in Pakistan, 'Thagor' in India and 'Rahula' in Sri Lanka.

The school is greatly assisted in its management by the Senior Old Boys' Association in co-operation with the Junior Old Boys' Association.

At present, the Senior OBA is engaged in the mega project of renovating the school playground whilst SDS (School Development Society) has launched the Swimming Pool project.

Isipathana College which consists of 189 teachers and 4564 students today is second to none of the other school in the country.

I look forward to receiving assistance from all concerned for the development of the school, in the journey ahead.

K. A. D. Punyadasa
Principal
